Robert Fitzroy (5 July 1805 – 30 April 1865) is buried in the church yard of All Saints Church, Upper Norwood, London. The memorial was restored in 1997. At the time of his death, he lived at 140 Church Road. This is near the church, and the site has historical markers from Croydon to mark the fact he lived in this house. Church Road connects Upper Norwood and Crystal Palace.
Vice-Admiral Robert Fitzroy RN (5 July 1805 – 30 April 1865) was an English officer of the Royal Navy and a scientist. He achieved lasting fame as the Captain of HMS Beagle during Charles Darwin‘s famous voyage, Fitzroy’s second expedition to Tierra del Fuego and the Southern Cone. This is far from his only significance in 19thC British science.
Darwin interacted a little with Fitzroy while he lived in central London.
